Solids vs. patterns

I love cove shorts, I have 4 pairs of the solid colored shorts and 3 pairs of the chino shorts. I recently ordered 2 pairs of shorts that had patterns, the lightening and the paisley, and those shorts do not fit the same as the solid colored shorts so I was disappointed. For some reason they have zippered pockets instead of the open pockets and the slits on the bottom seam don't go up as high so they are tighter around the thighs which I did not like. Not sure why the patterned shorts aren't the exact same as the solid colors but I guess I'll just have to stick to the solids from now on.
